The Soprano Bodil Victoria Arnesen has some new exciting engagements ahead of her in 2019, like the soprano part in Beethoven’s 9 th symphony in the forbidden city to China and a tour to Japan in the finest concert halls. In several recent reviews from 2018 she was praised for her clear, rare colour in the voice and for the “heartfelt pathos”, she delivers in the interpretations through her performances.

I had chance to see and hear your singing Rusalka. Besides your technique and voice, what impressed me most is your interpretecion of the aria. (Beniamino Gigli Jr.)

Besides from Opera, Bodil Arnesen has a great passion for Lieder. She learned to tresure the art of Lied through Edvard Grieg’s music. Through his songs she felt the melancoly and got close to the drama of nature in Human spirit. This gave her considerable insight into interpretation and empathy for much of the repertoire she has been studying since.

Oratorio from the Baroque is close to her heart and The Messiah of Handel is one of her favorites.As for the Opera literature, Händel is just as relevant for the soprano to sing. Here is to mention the role of Cleopatra in “Giulio Cesare in Egitto”. Her voice has now developed the great flexibility and fullness to fit well in the role of Elsa, in Wagner’s Lohengrin.

Among some of her current favorite works within the vocal symphonic repertoire include Handel Operas and Oratorio productions, Dvorak and Rossini Operas, Handel: Neun Deutsche Arien, Japanischer Frühling by Ludwig Irgends Jensen, Mahler’s 4 and 8 Symphonie and all Edvard Grieg’s orchestra songs and Richard Strauss “Vier Letzte Lieder” for soprano and orchestra.

The Norwegian soprano Bodil Victoria Arnesen studied at the University of Stavanger, and became later a member of The Bavarian Opera Studio in Munich.
She has sung in many countries with well-known conductors and orchestras. Here is to mention the Tour to Japan with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Mariss Jansons with excellent public acclaim and this concert was broadcasted Live from Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

The New York Times wrote the following about another performance: Gorgeously, turned readings by Bodil Arnesen, a Norwegian soprano with a velvety tone and a graceful interpretative manner.

Among some places she has sung is to mention;

  • Lincoln Center New York

  • Queen Elisabeth Hall

  • Tokyo Suntory Hall

  • Victoria Hall Singapore

  • Wigmore Hall
